Movie from class

The movie we saw in class was a bit more of an eye opener for me. I really like music, I have favorite artists and I like their work. After I saw the film I almost felt like I was wrong for liking them. Artist like Beyonce and Shakira appeared in this film. I really like their style and their music. I usually appreciate most of their videos, but I feel like I finally actually saw what I was looking at. I been so desensitized when I watch videos that I only notice the obvious ( like half naked women all over rappers who provide the viewer with all sorts of sexual innuendos. I don't tend so see these artists as ridiculously over sexual in their videos or their music, but I think that it could be because their lyrics are not overly sexual, so I overlook those things in videos, I don't seem to take in the obvious I just accept it as another video and I'll label it as cute or something.

See, I have always noticed the overt sexuality displayed in music videos, especially of that specific genre. It is expected to see trash in rap videos which are only about sex, but when the song has nothing to do with sex, it is absurd and really makes me sad for society. An excellent example is Umbrella by Rihanna. That video has no correlation to the song. Any lyrical and emotional meaning is negated by the sexual tone of the video. What is truly sad is that artists, like Rihanna, and record execs think that the only way to make money is to whore themselves out. How I love the moral degradation of our society.
